I think it is great a younger person taking a look at history and passing down information about how Finedon was year's ago.

Very interesting, something I never knew existed in Finedon, must have been quite a landmark! Finedon's own tower of Pisa!

I drive long distances for my job (live in Leicester), and sometimes travel through Finedon on my way home, and actually consider the old water tower a landmark, which prompted me to find out a bit about the place (every time I drive through, I'm intrigued by Finedon). Finding out about the Volta Tower and the fact that Richard Coles (the piano player in the Communards) is the local vicar, just made it ridiculously more interesting - and I've only driven through on the main road! What a great place.

Thank you for your lovely comment Jon. We are surrounded in history here in Finedon and yes we do indeed have our local celebrities too! Glad I have sparked an interest here. Please check out this site again as it is updated several times a year with new things. Any feedback you can provide is gratefully received.

Lovely site Jamie, I am sure there must be loads of older people who still live and have lived in Finedon that have memories of this building. Keep up the good work.

What a nice thought to create this website. I was at the Girls Junior School (the old one in Church Street) when we heard of the collapse.

Facinating to see your site as my brother and I are probably the only surviving people to have actually lived in the tower. John and Florence Northen were our grandparents. Thank you for lighting the candle.

Hello Rosemary, This is absolutely fascinating information. There are so many things I would love to ask you. Is there any chance you could send me an email?

I run a vintage postcards online store and am delighted to have been able to supply a 1906 postcard written by a previous resident of the Tower. I am now intrigued and fascinated by the history of the place and look forward to more information being discovered! Well done Jamie for a wonderful website and FB page. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for your kind comment Tyne. It was fascinating to read of the postcard that came into your hands and I cannot wait to update this site and be able to hopefully solve the mystery of who the sender of that postcard actually is, knowing that it is definitely someone who once lived in the tower.

I am not from Finedon I am from Rushden, but I have spent a lot of time in Finedon and I love the people as much as the place itself. I have always been intrigued by Finedon and its many interesting places. My Mum told me about the Volta Tower years ago and it has always fascinated me! I would love a house that looked like that now! Excellent website, keep up the good work.

It's a shame that efforts have not been made to reconstruct the tower. Has the idea never been put forward?

It's a shame that these buildings have to be lost. For a while it looked as though you were going to lose Finedon Hall, but at least that was saved, albeit at the expense of its grounds and the features therein.

I, too,was at Finedon Junior Girls when the tower collapsed. The fire engine could be seen going up Church Hill from the playground. After school we all went up Station Rd...it was a horrible sight

Saw this on Facebook and I'm very grateful for that. I was 6 months old when the tower collapsed and I remember my late mother used to tell me stories about it when I was growing up. She was always fascinated with the history of Finedon even though we left it in 1964.

Love to see these old buildings. .this one is particularly beautiful and has a rather ironic tale dont you think. Such a shame it has gone for ever apart from the pic and a gargoyle!! The Findon individual won't let you have a pic of it for the site then ??

I am sitting with my 93 year old mother showing her your website.....she was born and raised in Finedon, as I was also......after looking at the pictures, her comment was, "I have fond memories of pushing my children around and looking at that beautiful building. She knew the lady that passed away when the tower fell. Our whole family have pictures of the tower on our walls. We now live in the USA.
